AMERICAN HARDCORE (2006)

Generally unheralded at the time, the early-80s Hardcore Punk Rock scene gave birth to much of the rock music and culture that followed. There would be no Nirvana, Beastie Boys or Red Hot Chili Peppers were it not for hardcore pioneers such as Black Flag, Bad Brains and Minor Threat. Hardcore was more than music -- it was a social movement created by Reagan-era misfit kids. The participants constituted a tribe unto themselves -- some finding a voice, others an escape in the hard-edged music; some sought a better world, others were just angry and wanted to raise hell.

JACKASS NUMBER TWO (2006) JACKASS 2

Unfortunately for them, here comes "Jackass Number Two." Simultaneously raising the stakes and lowering the bar, "Jackass Number Two" unleashes the cast and crew as they get even uglier around the globe.

'It's either all or nothing,' realizes O2. With the clock ticking down, the heat between O2 and Coco rises as they become a lawbreaking couple, on an action-packed tear through a range of Los Angeles neighborhoods. a/k/a Tommy Chong (2006)
It should have been called Farenheit 420, AkA is the best Documentary to ever come out!! Revealing who the person is behind the huge cloud of white smoke and bushy beard. AkA Tommy Chong should be seen by all, who appreciate CHONG and what his "Cheech & Chong" legacy stand for, if you have not seen it, your missing out on another piece of there vintage collection. AkA Tommy Chong will go down in history as the voice of all stoner's, that say screw the politics this should be legal! God grows this stuff, the fact that medical patients who are dying find some relief, and can still be charged as a criminals is stupid. Tommy's character is the Hemp Messiah, Pope of Pot, he stands for an entire culture, Hollywood and all those exec's under-estimate his popularity, I remember when he was the biggest star on That 70's Show, and when they had to keep his lines short in front of the studio audience, to sustain the chanting Chong-Heads in the audience. Look Out World here comes not just a movie, but a movement.

Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties (2006)

When Garfield follows his owner, Jon Arbuckle, to England, the U.K. may never recover, as Garfield is mistaken for a look-alike, regal cat who has inherited a castle. Garfield savors the royal treatment afforded by his loyal four-legged subjects, but his reign is in jeopardy. The nefarious Lord Dargis is determined to do away with Garfield, so he can turn the castle into a resort. Garfield's bigger, better, more purr-fect world is soon turned upside down in this tale of two kitties.

Peter's wife Pat knows about her husband's other life, but there is an understanding between them; what happens in the dungeon is relegated to the world of fantasy. Then, Peter and Suzanne, undeniably drawn to each other, agree to see each other on the outside. Though Suzanne is clearly ambivalent about any sort of physical intimacy, Peter becomes increasingly obsessed with consummating their relationship. The more Suzanne pulls away, the harder Peter finds it to let go. As they meet in coffee shops, bars and restaurants throughout New York City, Peter remembers the erotic "scenes" between them and the relationship these fantasies have to his past.

When Seattle filmmaker Ward Serrill met Bill Resler, a college tax professor who moonlights as a girls' basketball coach, he didn't realize that he was about to embark on an incredible seven-year journey. Serrill, camera in hand, followed Resler -- who looks more like Santa Claus in Birkenstocks than a whistle-blasting high school coach -- into the Roosevelt High School gym and soon discovered a group of girls whose unbridled toughness, passion and energy he came to call "The Heart of the Game." Then, one day, onto the Roughriders' court (and into the film) walked Darnellia Russell -- a tough, inner-city girl whose off-court struggles would eventually threaten to crash the star athlete's plans to play college ball and be the first person in her family to get a college education. At the center of "The Heart of the Game" is Darnellia's unforgettable true story -- the loss of her eligibility and her legal battle to get back on court to play the game that means everything to her. With Coach Resler, her team and her family standing by her side, she takes on enormous personal obstacles as well as the ruling body of high school sports in Washington State.

A PRAIRIE HOME COMPANION (2006)

Robert Altman and writer Garrison Keillor join forces with an all-star cast to create a comic backstage fable, "A Prairie Home Companion," about a fictitious radio variety show that has managed to survive in the age of television. On a rainy Saturday night in St. Paul, Minn., fans file into the Fitzgerald Theater to see "A Prairie Home Companion," a staple of radio station WLT, not knowing that WLT has been sold to a Texas conglomerate and that tonight's show will be the last. Shot entirely in the Fitzgerald, except for the opening and closing scenes which take place in a nearby diner, the picture combines Altman's cinematic style and intelligence and love of improvisation and Keillor's songs and storytelling to create a fictional counterpart to the actual "A Prairie Home Companion" radio show, which has heard on public radio stations coast to coast for the past quarter-century (and which, in real life, continues to broadcast). The result is a compact tale with a series of extraordinary acting turns.

AGNES AND HIS BROTHERS (2006) Agnes und seiner Brueder

This is a portrait of a peculiar group -- three brothers, their father and one son -- whose dysfunctions subvert any chance of domesticity. The three brothers are quite the trio: a chronic masturbator, a brother who is now a sister and a Green Party leader with a bickering marriage and delinquent adolescent son.

ANIMALS AND MORE ANIMALS (2006)
Life by the seaside brings out the romantic adventurer in us all in Vivian Ostrovsky’s wild and wacky vision of the good life: a clumsy penguin wends it way along a rocky path, sharing screen time with a variety of contented pooches, a beached shark, a gorgeously colored Portuguese-speaking parrot – and best of all, a huge tiger taking a romp in the ocean. Nicolas Philibert (TO BE AND TO HAVE) visits Paris’s legendary Museum of Natural History (founded in 1889, renovated and reopened in 1994), recording the painstaking work of artistes who repaint, re-feather, fluff, and retro-fit a menagerie of stuffed specimens, destined to form a grande promenade in the museum’s spectacular new ground floor. Leave it to the French to speculate that the gorilla who no longer fits into his glass cage may have put on some weight.

AUTUMN (2006) Automne

(Truly Indie)

CARS (2006)

CHUP CHUP KE (2006)

The movie is a feel-good romantic comedy of errors and mistaken identities. Shahid Kapoor, an unlucky but good hearted young man, finds himself faking his own death to escape his various creditors and free his family from disgrace. Shahid ends up not dead but in another town being forced to assume another identity as a mute to avoid too many questions. His love interest is Kareena Kapoor, who plays a mute by birth in the film. Shahid is trapped in a false identity and lands from one scrape into another as he tries to hide his secret in this romantic family comedy.

CROSSING THE BRIDGE: THE SOUND OF ISTANBUL (2006)

Award-winning director Fatih Akin returns from the success of Head-On with a musical odyssey taking us on a unique journey through Istanbul, looking at the vibrant musical scene which includes traditional Turkish music alongside rock and hip-hop. The film is an absorbing portrait of the city that bridges Europe and Asia and continues the themes raised in Head-On by exploring the musical concept of east-meets-west.

BOMBON - EL PERRO (2006)

A lonely man's life is changed when a big white dog enters his world. Juan Villegas loses his job at a petrol station and ends up taking on odd jobs. One customer pays him not with cash but with Bombon: a large, white, ferocious-looking dog that is meek and accommodating. Villegas learns that the animal has the pedigree to win international shows, as well as becomes a breeding attraction, but Bombon would rather share his bitches' berth than satisfy their lust.

PSYCHOPATHIA SEXUALIS (2006)

I expected mere titillation for the sake of exploitation ...which is fine, and partly I guess why Krafft-Ebing challenges his readers to understand... he coined the term "masochism" and explained how exploitation, or being exploited satisfies one's desires, however desires and their abstractions---not just coitus for procreation---but those odd fetishes; weird and wonderful things that humans want with touch, taste and the associations with their ejaculations, is what Krafft-Ebing explored. In Krafft-Ebing's time the patriarchal model of thinking dominated every-body's behaviors, and the idea that Men and that Women have different needs was completely new territory. Krafft-Ebing sought to understand these things and so should you.

SLOW JAM KING (2004)

It is rare these days to go to a movie and see something truly unique. At my first viewing of SJK, that's exactly what I got. In this outrageous story, I cared about the characters and enjoyed their adventure. Everyone can relate to trying to find themselves. Everyone can relate to heartbreak and thinking about what could have been. But can you relate to all of these things happening at the same time in the same car? It takes a truly different and unique mind to smash cultures together the way Steve Mallorca did for SJK. The music was written by Mr. Mallorca and the theme song is set at just a perfect pace for the movie. I Strongly

Katherine will never know the truth. Katherine embraces the child as her own, blossoming in motherhood. Thorn's career ascends. Then tragedy strikes closer to home. It's apparent that Damien is the long-prophesized Anti-Christ. Now, Thorn must make the ultimate sacrifice to prevent the unspeakable terror that awaits the world.

LONG KNIVES NIGHT (2002) REPORTAZH IZ KLETKY DLYA KROLIKOV
THE REPORTING FROM THE RABBIT HUTCH = REPORTING FROM A RABBIT HOLE

The film chronicles the details of anticonstitutional coup in Belarus in 1996. The actions of the Lukashenko's comrades are compared to the actions of religious sect of Satanists, found in one of the small Belarussian cities. The film was banned by Belarussian authorities and is distributed in Belarus illegally.

PEACEFUL WARRIOR (2006) - The story, based on a book by Dan Millman, follows a college gymnast who has great potential but whose desire for success is one of the main obstacles standing in the way of that potential. In his mindless pursuit of a goal, he becomes sucked into the deep dark hole of life-is-what-happens-while-you're-making-other-plans. In its simplest message, our hero's real challenge is to find happiness by being present and finding interest and love for what's right in front of him. For many years I have been convinced that non-religious spiritual thought and experience could be something to drive the world in a new direction. This movie provides an example of what life can be like if we ponder these thoughts and implement them in our lives in a concrete and practical way. It's not necessary to be a champion gymnast to derive the fundamental teachings from this film. It is a teaching that anyone can understand. This is why I see that The Peaceful Warrior can inspire those who embrace the possibilities which it offers to become peaceful guerrilla warriors, working tirelessly underneath the radar, changing the world.

SLAVOJ ZIZEK: THE REALITY OF THE VIRTUAL

Zizek argues that, in their exclusive focus on the prevention of suffering, the doctrine of human rights evacuates politics and retreats back to the terrain of good and evil. By denying the political subjectivity of its victims, he continues, the enforcement of human rights through military and political intervention only serves to preserve those victims as victims, and prepare the way for continued violations of human rights.

THE CULT OF THE SUICIDE BOMBER (2006)
Former CIA agent Robert Baer returns to the Middle East with director Kevin Toolis to explore the history, politics and psychology behind the development of suicide warfare. Beginning with the story of the world's first suicide bomber, 13-year-old Iranian Hossein Fahmideh, Baer tracks the origins of this pathological social virus; its historic antecedents, its new traditions, and the quasi-religious cult that now surrounds this once unthinkable act. From the gaudy graveyard of martyrs just outside Tehran to the shrine-like living rooms of the bombers' proud families, Baer takes us inside a world where violence has becomes a sacred tradition and an integral part of the political landscape. Throughout the exploration of this disturbing new trend in conflict, Baer reaches one inescapable conclusion: that expanded, intensive human intelligence is the only defense against the virulent new form of warfare.

There, he is comforted by Aunt June, his loving surrogate mother with a musical past, and falls for Kia, a lovely churchgoer with her fingers on the pulse of the history, and magic, of Harlem . As Bull Sharky and his posse move east tracking Te down, Te and Wes must confront their own demons and attempt to work out their differences.

On April 14th, the Scary Movie gang is back with the most hilarious and irreverent installment yet! "Scary Movie 4" is set to invade a theatre near you with outrageous send-ups of "War of the Worlds," "The Grudge," "The Village," "Saw" and "Saw II," "Million Dollar Baby" and much more. Legendary comedy director David Zucker and producer Bob Weiss reunite to take aim at some of the best fright films, the latest box office hits, music, current events, pop culture, and your favorite celebrities. Anna Faris and Regina Hall are back as the loveable, dim-witted Cindy Campbell and her self-serving, sex-crazed pal, Brenda, respectively -- joined this time around by Craig Bierko, as the cute-but-utterly clueless Tom Ryan. Together, they battle to save the world from a ruthless alien invasion. And, in true Scary Movie tradition, the outrageous celebrity cameos are non-stop. In "Scary Movie 4," nothing - and we mean NOTHING -- is off limits!

SISTERS IN LAW (2006)
In one small courthouse in Cameroon two women are determined to change a village, and are making progress that could change the world. The tough-minded state prosecutor Vera Ngassa and Court President Beatrice Ntuba are working to help women in their Muslim village find the courage to fight often-difficult cases of abuse, despite pressures from family and their community to remain silent. With fierce compassion, they dispense wisdom, wisecracks and justice in fair measure--handing down stiff sentences to those convicted.

THE SISTERS (2005)

In a college in Manhattan, three sisters and a brother, who yearn for the simpler life their family left behind in Charleston, reveal their family secrets and self-deceptions with wit and candor, culminating in a moment of physical and emotional violence.

THE NOTORIOUS BETTIE PAGE (2006)

The Wild (2006)
In this wild and outrageous computer-animated comedy-adventure, an odd assortment of animals from the New York Zoo -- including a lion, a giraffe, an anaconda, a koala, and a squirrel -- discover what a jungle the city can be when one of their own is mistakenly shipped to the wild and they embark on a dangerous mission to rescue him. The film boasts an impressive vocal ensemble -- Kiefer Sutherland (as the respected lion leader, Samson), Greg Cipes (as Samson's son, Ryan), Jim Belushi (as Benny, the street savvy squirrel and Samson's best friend), Janeane Garofalo (as a quick-witted giraffe), Richard Kind (as a dim-witted anaconda), William Shatner (as a wicked wildebeest), and Eddie Izzard (as Nigel, an acerbic koala) -- along with cutting edge animation, and a story filled with hilarious situations. Director Steve "Spaz" Williams and producer Clint Goldman helped to revolutionize CG character animation during their long association with ILM, and were responsible for the acclaimed Blockbuster Entertainment commercials featuring Carl the rabbit and Ray the guinea pig.

4 (FOUR) (2005)

Four episodes depict life in Moscow and in the country. The opening of the film sets the whole atmosphere, introducing three characters who happen to meet in an anonymous bar. In the long bar scene, we learn from their conversations both the intriguing and banal details of their lives. But are they all telling the truth? It's only later on, when the three separate, that more hints about these strangers are revealed, mainly about the possibly cloned young woman. A film that plays with subjects like cloning, social and political changes in Russia, its countryside and its present-day citizens surviving all in their own way. Can these worlds really coexist in contemporary Russia?

95 MILES TO GO (2006)

Ray Romano's eight-day drive through the south on a stand-up comedy tour becomes more than he bargains for when longtime friend and opening act, Tom Caltabiano, brings a film student along to document their 1,000-mile journey. Together, all three struggle with Ray's obsessions, phobias and insecurities in this unscripted exploration of newfound fame.

FREE ZONE (2006)

Two women form an unlikely relationship as the result of circumstance. One woman jumps into a cab driven by the other woman. What results, is a journey involving thugs and political intrigue.

FRIENDS WITH MONEY (2006)

"Friends With Money" examines the shifting relationships among four women who have been friends all of their adult lives. Now as they settle into their early middle age, their friendship is increasingly challenged by the ever-growing disparity in their individual degrees of financial comfort. It is a poignant snapshot of the way we live today, where the safe divisions that class and money have created are eroding under the unstoppable force of everyday life. This painfully hilarious examination of modern life manages to be both brutally honest and ultimately uplifting.

LUCKY NUMBER SLEVIN (2006)

A case of mistaken identity lands Slevin in the middle of a war being plotted by two of New York's most rival crime bosses: The Rabbi and the Boss. Slevin is under constant surveillance by relentless Detective Brikowski as well as the infamous assassin Goodkat, and he finds himself having to hatch his own ingenious plot to get them… before they get him.

ON A CLEAR DAY (2005)

Frank is a hard-working 55 year-old, respected in his local community, who suddenly finds himself without a job. For the first time in his life, Frank is without direction. When his friend Danny jokes that on a clear day he could swim to France, an idea is planted in Frank's mind. Concealing his plans from his loving wife Joan, Frank determines to put his life back together by attempting the ultimate test of endurance -- to swim the English Channel. In so doing he cements a broken relationship with his grown up son.

PHAT GIRLZ (2006)

"Phat Girlz" is an edgy comedy about two frustrated plus-size women obsessed with their weight while struggling to find love and acceptance in a world full of "hot bodied" babes.

QUALITY OF LIFE (2006)

Over the years, two young men develop graffiti into an urban art form on the streets of San Francisco, only to face prosecution and the prospect of imprisonment.

SIMON (2004) HIJ VERANDERT JE LEVEN (HE CHANGES YOUR LIFE)
Here is a movie that is moving and sad, although it comes in one of the funniest packages I have seen. It tells the story of the straight Simon (Cees Geel) and his gay-friend Camiel (Marcel Hensema). The movie starts in 1988, Holland. Simon hits Camiel with his car and drives him to a nearby hospital. After Camiel has revealed he is gay Simon replies with 'better you then me,' and we know what kind of guy Simon is. Although Simon is pretty hard on Camiel, especially with his gay-comments, they become friends. Simon owns a hash bar (in Holland we call it a coffee shop), has a girl named Sharon (Rifka Lodeizen), and two kids (one girl, one boy) with an ex-wife in Thailand. Once a year Simon and his friends all go to Thailand because Simon has things to do there. Since Camiel is part of the group he joins them. Events on the island make sure Camiel and Simon stop seeing each other.

TAKE THE LEAD (2006)

Inspired by a true story, Antonio Banderas stars as internationally acclaimed ballroom dancer Pierre Dulane. The film revolves around a professional dancer who volunteers to teach in the New York City public school system. But when his classic methods clash with his students' hip hop instincts, he teams up with them to create a new style of dance and becomes their mentor in the process. "Take the Lead" co-stars Alfre Woodard and marks the feature directing debut of veteran music video helmer Liz Friedlander.

THE BENCHWARMERS (2006)
Gus, Richie and Clark are three underdogs who spent a great deal of time on the bench when they were kids. Now, they're getting a second chance. Mel is a local billionaire whose son Nelson is always being intimidated by the other kids. One day, Gus and Clark rescue Nelson from a bunch of bullies on the baseball field. When Max tells his father about the incident, Mel makes Gus, Clark and Richie a tantalizing proposition: He will put up the money for them to travel and play in a tournament against the young baseballers as a way of helping his son and other nerds like him to exact revenge against the bullies of this world. It will be called "Mel's Tournament of Little Baseballers and Three Older Guys." The winner will get the greatest stadium ever built--at Mel's expense. In order to prepare Gus, Richie and Clark for the tournament, Mel hires baseball legend Reggie Jackson to train them. Reggie works with them on timing by having them sit in the back of a truck as it drives down the street, swinging a bat and demolishing mailboxes. He also teaches them fielding by tossing a hot potato at them, which they catch barehanded and toss quickly to one another. Amazingly, the training pays off and they become an inspiration to benchwarmers everywhere.

WHEN DO WE EAT? (2006)

This is the story of the world's fastest Passover seder that is anything but. On this night, secrets will be revealed, fantasies fulfilled, barriers broken-down and some food might be consumed. A tough-love dad has to deal with hosting his father who never unpacks, his wife who is intent on creating the perfect Seder, and his children who go out of their way to make the night an adventure. When one of the kids slips Dad a tab of Ecstasy, his visions turn him into a modern day Moses intent on leading this hungry group to the promised land of family forgiveness. Of course, they're all so stubborn, it would be easier to part the Red Sea.

ADAM & STEVE (2006)

Having met in the '80s after a disastrous one night stand, Adam and Steve don't recognize each other when they meet again 15 years later. With the help of their best friends, formerly obese stand-up comic Rhonda, and straight guy ladies man Michael, our protagonists fall in love only to realize, a year into their relationship, that they met before and unwittingly changed the course of each other's lives that fateful night in the '80s. Now the question is -- can they accept this and incorporate it into their current understanding of each other? Or more importantly, can they hold hands on the street without being beaten up?

ATL (2006)

"ATL" tells the story of four teens coming of age in a working class Atlanta neighborhood where hip-hop music and roller skating rule. As the group prepares for life after high school, challenges on and off the rink bring about turning points in each of their lives. The film is loosely based on Dallas Austin and Tionne Watkins' experiences growing up in Atlanta and hanging out at a local skating rink called Jellybeans.

AWESOME; I FUCKIN' SHOT THAT! (2006) Awesome: I F**kin' Shot That

The hugely popular music group Beastie Boys handed out 50 cameras to audience members at a sold-out performance in New York's Madison Square Garden. "Awesome" presents these 50 different passionate perspectives shot from the point-of-view of the audience, taking viewers deep inside the world of a live Beastie Boys show. Prismatically and kinetically, it captures the experience of the live musical performance.

BASIC INSTINCT 2: RISK ADDICTION (2006)

Novelist Catherine Tramell is once again in trouble with the law, and Scotland Yard appoints psychiatrist Dr. Andrew Glass to evaluate her. Although, like Detective Nick Curran before him, Glass is entranced by Tramell and lured into a seductive game.

BRICK (2006) - "Brick," while taking its cues and its verbal style from the novels of Dashiell Hammett, also honors the rich cinematic tradition of the hard-boiled noir mystery, here wittily and bracingly immersed in fresh territory - a modern-day Southern California neighborhood and high school. There, student Brendan Frye's piercing intelligence spares no one. Brendan is not afraid to back up his words with actions, and knows all the angles; yet he prefers to stay an outsider, and does - until the day that his ex-girlfriend, Emily reaches out to him unexpectedly and then vanishes. Brendan's feelings for her still run deep; so much so, that he becomes consumed with finding his troubled inamorata. To find her, Brendan enlists the aid of his only true peer, The Brain, while keeping the assistant vice principal only occasionally informed of what quickly becomes a dangerous investigation. Brendan's single-minded unearthing of students' secrets thrusts him headlong into the colliding social orbits of rich-girl sophisticate Laura, intimidating Tugger, substance-abusing Dode, seductive Kara, jock Brad and - most ominously - non-student The Pin. It is only by gaining acceptance into The Pin's closely guarded inner circle of crime and punishment that Brendan will be able to uncover hard truths about himself, Emily and the suspects that he is getting closer to.

DRAWING RESTRAINT 9 (2006)
Shot in Nagasaki Bay on board the Japanese whaling ship Nisshin Maru. The relationship between self-imposed resistance and creativity, a theme that symbolically tracks through the construction and transformation of a vast sculpture of liquid vaseline, called 'The Field', which is molded, poured, bisected and reformed on the deck of the ship over the course of the film. Barriers hold form in place, and when they are removed, the film tracks the descent of form into states of sensual surrender and formal atrophy. This shift in the physical state of the sculpture is symbolically mirrored through the narrative of the guests, two occidental visitors to the ship.

ICE AGE 2: THE MELTDOWN (2006)
In "Ice Age: The Meltdown," our sub-zero heroes from the worldwide blockbuster CGI film "Ice Age" are back -- Manny the woolly mammoth, Sid the sloth, Diego the saber-toothed tiger and the hapless saber-toothed squirrel known as Scrat. In the new film, from the Academy Award winning creators of "Ice Age" and "Robots." the Ice Age is coming to an end, and the animals are delighting in the melting paradise that is their new world. Manny, Sid, and Diego quickly learn that the warming climate has one major drawback: a huge glacial dam is about to break, threatening the entire valley. The only chance of survival lies at the other end of the valley. So our three heroes, along with a mammoth named Ellie (Queen Latifah) and her two 'brothers' -- possums Crash and Eddie -- embark on a mission across an increasingly dangerous landscape towards their salvation.

IRON ISLAND (2006) JAZIRE AHANI

Old Captain Nemat runs a tight ship. This benevolent dictator is almost a father to the scores of poor, homeless, uneducated families who live on his immensely overcrowded tanker, anchored several yards offshore. The fact that the ship's owner and the authorities have ordered him to evacuate the place presents no problem. He simply refuses with somewhat disastrous results.

IOWA (2006)

Forget 4-H, the kids are not alright in Iowa. A harrowing account of the methamphetamine addiction ravaging the sons and daughters of the heartland, who should be out working in the local Wal-Mart or milking cows on the family farm but instead have turned into hallucinating tweakers and depraved crank monsters.

MARILYN HOTCHKISS' BALLROOM DANCING AND CHARM SCHOOL (2006)
Frank Keane has been consumed by grief over his wife's death. When fate intervenes, he pulls over to help a stranger in a car wreck. The man, near death, begs Frank to fulfill a promise made 40 years ago that he would meet his childhood sweetheart at Marilyn Hotchkiss' Ballroom Dancing and Charm School where they first met as kids. Frank attempts to deliver the man's regrets, but instead meets his own destiny when he encounters Meredith and the invigorating world of dance, which opens his heart to find love again.

SLITHER (2006)
The sleepy town of Wheelsy could be any small town in America -- somewhat quaint and gentle, peopled with friendly folks who mind their own business. But just beneath the surface charm, something unnamed and evil has arrived...and is growing. No one seems to notice as telephone poles become clogged with missing pet flyers, or when one of the town's richest citizens, Grant, begins to act strangely. But when farmers' livestock turn up horribly mutilated and a young woman goes missing, Sheriff Bill Pardy and his team, aided by Grant's wife Starla, uncover the dark force laying siege to their town...and come face-to-face with an older-than-time organism intent on absorbing and devouring all life on Earth.

SWIMMERS (2006)

When the cost of 11-year-old Emma's medical care starts to fracture her struggling family, old wounds and hidden resentments resurface. Meanwhile, her parents desire to provide for her nearly makes her invisible to them.

THE DEVIL AND DANIEL JOHNSTON (2006)
The Devil and Daniel Johnston is a stunning portrait of a musical genius that nearly slipped away. It depicts a perfect example of brilliance and madness going hand in hand. Because Daniel Johnston is an artist suffering from manic depression with delusions of grandeur, wild fluctuations, numerous downward spirals, and periodic respites mark his life. The film artfully melds current footage, vintage performances, home movies, and dozens of recorded audiotapes from Johnston's life. Testimony from supportive friends and a deeply committed family adds a rich layer to Johnston's personal history, but Daniel Johnston's poetic songs tell their own passionate, haunting, and truly unforgettable story.

TORO NEGRO (2006)
Retrato de Fernando Pacheco, torero de la región Maya, en el sureste mexicano. Joven entrañable, honesto y luchador, pero autodestructivo, alcohólico y violento.

Portrait of Fernando, also known as El Suicida and El Negro, a bull fighter in the slums of the Mexican Yucutan Peninsula--sometimes a charming host to the film makers, other times nothing but an aggressive drunk.

YANG BAN XI: THE 8 MODEL WORKS (2006)

The story of lives inextricably linked to the Yang Ban Xi, the propaganda spectacles which replaced traditional opera during the Cultural Revolution in China.

As the dangerous cat-and-mouse game unfolds, a wild card emerges: Madeline (Jodie Foster), a power broker with a hidden agenda, who injects even more instability into an already volatile situation.

L'ENFANT (2006) THE CHILD

LARRY THE CABLE GUY: HEALTH INSPECTOR (2006)

Larry the Cable Guy is a health inspector assigned to investigate a series of food poisoning incidents at the city's top restaurants.

LONESOME JIM (2006) - Jim begrudgingly returns to his hometown in rural Indiana after failing to make it on his own in New York. He soon remembers why he left: a doting but overbearing mother, a distant father, and a depressed older brother whose "accidents" seem suspect at best. Jim is soon forced to take on his brother's duties -- working at his parent's factory and helping out with his two rambunctious nieces. Crippled by obligations and anxieties, Jim trudges on though every day monotones and the family's collapse after mom is mistakenly taken for a suburban drug smuggler. Almost miraculously, hope springs from his developing relationship with a local nurse and her young son, and Jim slowly learns to move forward without leaving anyone behind.

MARDI GRAS: MADE IN CHINA (2006)

This examination of cultural and economic globalization follows Mardi Gras beads made in China by teenage girls and young women -- who work in a factory 12 to 14 hours a day, six days a week for around 10 cents an hour -- to the adults who exchange them in the 24-hour New Orleans Mardi Gras celebration.

PUZZLEHEAD (2006) - The film itself is basically about a man who creates a robot (named Puzzlehead) that looks exactly like him and whose "synaptic map" is a direct copy of his own. The two look the same except for a beard. The man has a crush on a local grocery store clerk and Puzzlehead the robot is the one who ends up finally meeting her. She thinks he's a human etc. and the drama begins. The plot goes from there and i don't want to spoil it but basically there's a lot of twists involving who is the real man and who is the robot and which is ultimately the better person. The film handles robot artificial intelligence issues really well and shows the progression of how a robot would likely think and the striking differences and similarities between humans and robots. The film makes the audience truly question who is more human. All the technological mumbo jumbo is easy to understand so you don't get into a situation where you're confused (like that movie "Primer"). But the plot does stay a little ahead of the viewer.

SHADOW: DEAD RIOT (2006)

Female convict Solitaire is sent to an experimental women's prison and uncovers the facility's dark supernatural past that connects to the murder of her mother. Soon, Solitaire finds herself waging a one-woman battle of vengeance against a zombie army and an undead serial killer known as "Shadow."

STONED (2006)

This is the tale of debauched 1960s rock icon, Brian Jones, the charismatic guitarist who co-founded the Rolling Stones but was fired in 1969. A few weeks later he was found dead at the bottom of his swimming pool.

SUMMER STORM (2006)
Tobi and Achim have been best friends for years. As cox and oarsman, they have helped their team win several rowing cups in the past and are now looking forward to the big regatta in the countryside. But, this trip is no summer camp and the first problems soon arise. As Achim's relationship with his girlfriend grows more serious, Tobi starts to realize that his feelings for Achim run deeper than he's willing to admit to himself. He feels confused, unsure of himself and increasingly left out. When the much-anticipated Berlin girls' team is being replaced by a team of athletic, cliché-busting young gay men, Tobi and his teammates are suddenly forced to grapple with their prejudices, their fears, and, perhaps, their hidden longings. As the tension grows, Tobi, Achim and the others head toward a confrontation as fierce and ultimately as liberating as the summer storm gathering over the lake.

STAY ALIVE (2006)
After the mysterious, brutal death of an old friend, a group of teenagers find themselves in possession of "Stay Alive," an ultra-realistic 3-D videogame based on the spine-chilling true story of a 17th century noblewoman, known as "The Blood Countess." The gamers don't know anything about the game other than they're not supposed to have it... and they're dying to play it. Not able to resist temptation, the kids begin to play the grisly game but soon make a chilling connection -- they are each being murdered one-by-one in the same way as the characters they played in the game. As the line between the game world and the real world disappears, the teens must find a way to defeat the vicious and merciless Blood Countess, all the while trying to... stay alive.

THE BEAUTY ACADAMY OF KABUL (2006) - You might think that the last thing Kabul in Afghanistan needs is a beauty school. After all, it's a city often without electricity or running water. But a group of women thought otherwise and their efforts are chronicled in a new documentary, as Manoush Zomorodi reports. Two years ago a group of western women decided to open up an academy for hairstyling and makeup in the war torn capital of Afghanistan. Documentary maker Liz Mermin captured their first session in her film 'The Beauty Academy of Kabul'. Liz Mermin: "The basic idea behind this is when awful something happens somewhere in the world, when there's a war and you need to rebuild, everyone needs to help in the way that they can best. We're not all doctors, teachers, engineers. The thinking of the women who started the school was that this is what we know how to do and so we'll teach the skills we know."

THE LADY IN QUESTION IS CHARLES BUSCH (2006) - I saw this film at the ImageOut film festival last weekend, and found it a highlight of my film going year so far. The directors take a fascinating person's career and make it even more interesting with a series of great interview subjects (including Kathleen Turner, B.D. Wong, and Rosie O'Donnell), hysterical video footage of Busch's past live performances, and clips from his film work. Busch himself is a wonderful interview subject and the life and career he's had is an inspiration for anyone who feels a little different and still wants to succeed in mainstream society. I would hope this film gets shown to every gay--or even just "different"--young person to show them they can succeed to the level of their wildest dreams, even if they have to make their own opportunities. If you're not a Charels Busch fan yet, you will be after you see this very entertaining and heart-warming film.

DUCK SEASON (2006)
Flama and Moko are 14 years old and have been best friends since they were kids. They have everything they need to survive yet another boring Sunday: an apartment without parents, videogames, porn magazines, soft drinks and pizza delivery. Yet, there are forces that conspire to disrupt their serene existence -- namely, the electricity company; Rita, the neighbor; Ulises, the pizza deliveryman; eleven seconds, the Real Madrid-Manchester game; some chocolate brownies; and a horrible painting of ducks. As a result, they must face such issues as divorce, loneliness, the confusion between adolescent love and friendship and frustration in adult life.

EVIL (2005) ONDSKAN - Erik is a 16-year-old boy whose life has been plagued by violence. Tormented by his abusive stepfather, he has hit back in the only way he knows -- by giving a good thrashing to anyone in his way. When he is expelled from public school, Erik is told he has one last chance to make something of himself and is sent to a prestigious private school. This time, he is determined not to mess up. Initially, Erik is overjoyed to escape his unhappy home, but he soon discovers he has merely substituted one prison for another. The school is run by a rigorous and unjust code, enforced by senior students rather than the faculty. In fact, the teachers prefer to ignore what goes on among the students, including beatings and a wide variety of humiliating rites. Soon, Erik is faced with a dangerous choice: confront his oppressors and risk expulsion, ignore them and suffer humiliation, or let his friends suffer for him.

SHAKESPEARE BEHIND BARS (2006)
Some 20 male inmates in a Kentucky prison form a Shakespearean acting troupe.
Shakespeare's plays have been performed in every major city, in every possible venue, but perhaps the most unusual and emotionally-charged performances of OTHELLO and TWO GENTLEMEN OF VERONA have taken place at the Luther Luckett Correctional Complex in LaGrange, Ky. Hank Rogerson's moving documentary focuses on actor Curt Tofteland's program for prison inmates, which allows incarcerated men to express themselves through role-playing. In interviews and behind-the-scenes glimpses, it becomes clear that the tragic flaws of the Shakespearian characters serve as a mirror for the prisoners' own crimes and behaviors, providing them with valuable and potentially healing insights.

Manderlay (2006) - Manderlay lay on a lonely plain somewhere in the deep south of the USA. It was in the year of 1933 that Grace and her father had left the township of Dogville behind them. By chance their cars stop in the state of Alabama in front of a large iron gate bearing a thick chain and a padlock. Beside the gate, a dead oak tree towers over a heavy boulder with Manderlay hewn in monumental letters into the granite. Just as Grace, her father and his men are about to leave after a short break and a quick lunch, a young black woman runs up to the car. She knocks on Grace's window. She hammers at the glass in despair. Ignoring her father's advice to leave others to their own affairs, Grace follows the girl through the gates of Manderlay and there, she finds a group of people living as if slavery had not been abolished seventy years earlier, with white masters and black slaves. Grace believes that she has a duty to make it up to the slaves for injustices they have suffered at the hands of her kind: 'we brought them here, we abused them and made them what they are,' as she argues to her father, and she decides that having liberated Manderlay, she will remain at the plantation until she has seen them through their first harvest.

But as Nanny McPhee takes control, they begin to notice that their vile behavior now leads swiftly and magically to rather startling consequences. Her influence also extends to the family's deeper problems, including Mr. Brown's sudden and seemingly inexplicable attempts to find a new wife; an announcement by the domineering Aunt Adelaide that she intends to take one of the children away; and the sad and secret longings of their scullery maid, Evangeline. The Spirit of the Beehive (1973) - Widely regarded as a masterpiece of Spanish cinema, this allegorical tale is set in a remote village in the 1940s. The life in the village is calm and uneventful -- an allegory of Spanish life after General Franco's victory in the Spanish Civil War. While their father (Fernando Fernán Gómez) studies bees in his beehive and their mother (Teresa Gimpera) writes letters to a non-existent correspondent, two young girls, Ana (Ana Torrent) and Isabel (Isabel Telleria), go to see James Whale's Frankenstein at a local cinema. Though they can hardly understand the concept, both girls are deeply impressed with the moment when a little girl gives a flower to the monster. Isabel, the older sister, tells Ana that the monster actually exists as a spirit that you can't see unless you know how to approach him. Ana starts wandering around the countryside in search of the kind creature. Instead, she meets an army deserter, who is hiding in a barn. The film received critical accolades for its subtle and masterful use of cinematic language and the expressive performance of the young Ana Torrent. ~ Yuri German, All Movie Guide

In the end, Alex unveils her secret, and a moment of chaos soon calms as the crazed crowd is forced to re-examine their own lives.

Beyond the Rocks (1922) - This picture did great at the box office, and no wonder Paramount's biggest star of the day, Gloria Swanson, co-starred with Rudolph Valentino (whose fame was so new that his first name was still being spelled "Rodolph"), in a story written by the most famous trashy novelist of the day, Elinor Glyn. There was no way this romantic drama could have lost. Swanson plays Theodora Fitzgerald, the daughter of poor but aristocratic parents. Her father pushes her into a marriage with a retired and wealthy grocer, but on the honeymoon she meets Lord Bracondale, a stunningly handsome nobleman (Valentino) when he saves her from a mountain climbing fall. The two embark on a torrid affair (enhanced by fanciful historical flashbacks). Although Theodora wishes to do right by her husband, he discovers that she does not love him and goes on an expedition, where he is fatally wounded. Before he dies, he generously gives the errant couple his approval. Between the time this film completed production and the time it came out, The Four Horsemen of the Apolcalypse was released, increasing Valentino's box office value even more.

Glory Road (2006)

The inspiring true story of the underdog Texas Western basketball team, with history's first all African American starting lineup of players, who took the country by storm, surprisingly winning the 1966 NCAA tournament title. Josh Lucas stars as Hall of Famer Don Haskins, the passionately dedicated college basketball coach that changed the history of basketball with his team's victory in this time of innocence.

Henri Cartier Bresson: The Impassioned Eye (2006)
When Cartier-Bresson died last year, he was mourned as the "father of photojournalism" and one of the greatest photographers ever. He believed in seizing the decisive moment and editing in camera, producing snapshots that were consistently stunning compositions. This documentary focuses primarily on his work from the 1940s to the 1960s, a period when he witnessed key international events like the liberation of Paris and the death of Gandhi. It also spotlights his revealing portraits of a wide range of icons and celebrities, from Marilyn Monroe to Henri Matisse. Although Cartier-Bresson was camera-shy himself, the film captures him leafing through his prints as well as his collection of sketches and vivid and intimate portrait illustrates why the peripatetic photographer was such a supremely accomplished artist.

Hoodwinked (2006)
"Hoodwinked" is an updated re-telling of the classic Little Red Riding Hood fairy tale. The satire begins where the fable last left off, as there's always more to every tale than meets the eye! Furry and feathered cops from the animal world, Chief Grizzly and Detective Bill Stork, investigate a domestic disturbance at Granny's cottage, involving a girl, a wolf and an axe. The charges are many: breaking and entering, disturbing the peace, intent to eat, and wielding an axe without a license. Not to mention, this case might be tied to the elusive "Goody Bandit" who has been stealing the recipes of goody shops everywhere.

Last Holiday (2006)
Georgia Byrd lives a small life tucked inside big dreams. A shy cookware salesperson for a New Orleans retail outlet, she handles knives and skillets with the flair of a master chef. But when Georgia learns her days are numbered, she throws caution to the wind and embarks on a dream holiday vacation to a grand resort in Europe. There, thinking she has nothing to lose, Georgia undergoes a metamorphosis - and her transformation affects everyone around her. Georgia's newly uninhibited personality shakes up staff and guests alike, including a venerate chef as well as a retail magnate who becomes convinced she's a rival intent on sabotaging his business plans. From snowy slopes to spectacular spas, delectable dinners to midnight balls, Georgia is going to live a lifetime of fun in just a few weeks.

Liberty Street: Alive at Ground Zero (2006)
More than just another September 11 movie, the film is a haunting record of the surreal world that existed in the aftermath of the fall of the towers. Featuring stunning, shot-on-the-fly footage of a downtown dystopia that has long since vanished from the public consciousness, it is a portrait of a city under siege, and a record of the people who struggled to restore their corner of the world to order. It challenges more simplistic, mainstream views of Ground Zero with vivid portraits of exceptional New Yorkers who made a place for themselves in that tragic and transitory neighborhood.

State of Fear (2006)

That Man: Peter Berlin (2006)
With his trademark Dutchboy haircut, Tom of Finland physique, and oh-so-tight trousers, Peter Berlin was the poster boy for the hedonistic and sexually liberated 1970s. Director Jim Tushinski's fascinating, sexy, and ultimately touching portrait, "That Man: Peter Berlin" traces Berlin's story over the past 40 years, from his birth in wartime Germany to his current life in San Francisco, turning the elusive sex icon into a human being.

The Keeper: The Legend of Omar Khayyam (2006)
Paul Lamont is a 36-year-old Haitian-American corrections officer at the Brooklyn King's County House of Detention. An aspiring law student, Paul, who lives a culturally bankrupt existence--is a man caught between two worlds. He sees the human side of the prisoners he watches over, just as he sees the violent and brutal nature of his fellow officers. The pressures of his job, including the threat of violence, unwanted overtime, and peer pressure have taken a heavy toll on his marriage to Angela, a middle school teacher who has been his wife for five years. His marriage is already in trouble when he bails Jean Baptiste, a mysterious Haitian, out of jail, convinced that Baptiste has been wrongly accused of rape. Insinuating himself into Lamont's life, Baptiste leads his benefactor on an unimaginable journey of self-discovery as his presence forces Paul to confront his misgivings about his own Hatian culture head-on.

Despite regular cell phone reminders that she has a husband and child waiting at home, Irene is nonetheless charmed by the attention of her ardent, cheerful and tender admirer.
