BARNYARD (2006) .

"Barnyard" is a lighthearted tale centering around Otis, a carefree party cow, who enjoys singing, dancing and playing tricks on humans. Unlike his father Ben, the respected patriarch of the farm, and Miles, the wise old mule, Otis is unconcerned about keeping the animals' humanlike talents a secret. But when suddenly put in the position of responsibility, the "udderly" irresponsible cow finds the courage to be a leader.

JAILBAIT (2006) .

Randy, a boyish felon, commits a victimless crime that would normally get him probation and a hefty fine, but in the "three-strikes" world of justice, he finds himself locked up for 25 years. His cellmate, Jake, is a congenial, yet remorseless, lifer who casually informs Randy that he slit his wife's throat because she slept with another man just three months after they exchanged vows. Jake recognizes Randy's fear and offers him advice on how to make it in prison. But, it soon becomes clear that Jake has much more than mentoring in mind as he takes Randy under his wing. For these two men so yearning to be anything but who they are and where they are, power is the goal, and it's never clear who truly holds it right up to the last unsettling moment.

MY COUNTRY, MY COUNTRY (2006) .

Working alone in Iraq over eight months, director/cinematographer Laura Poitras creates an extraordinarily intimate portrait of Iraqis living under U.S. occupation. Her principal focus is Dr. Riyadh, an Iraqi medical doctor, father of six and Sunni political candidate. An outspoken critic of the occupation, he is equally passionate about the need to establish democracy in Iraq, arguing that Sunni participation in the January 2005 elections is essential. Yet all around him, Dr. Riyadh sees only chaos, as his waiting room fills each day with

QUINCEAÑERA (2006) . - Magdalena (Emily Rios) is the daughter of a Mexican-American family who run a storefront church in Echo Park, Los Angeles. With her fifteenth-birthday approaching, all she can think about is her boyfriend, her Quinceanera dress, and the Hummer Limo she hopes to arrive in on her special day. But a few months before the celebration, Magdalena gets pregnant. As the elaborate preparations for her Quinceanera proceed, it is only a matter of time before her religious father finds out and rejects her. Forced out of her home, Magdalena moves in with great-great uncle Tomas (Chalo Gonzalez), a gentle man who makes his living selling champurrado (a Mexican hot drink) in the street. Already living with him is Carlos (Jesse Garcia), Magdalena's cousin, a tough young cholo who was thrown out by his parents for being gay. The back house rental where Tomas has lived happily for many years is on a property that was recently purchased by an affluent white gay couple (David Ross and Jason L. Wood) -- pioneers of gentrification in the neighborhood. Carlos quickly attracts the couple's attention and they soon make him their plaything in an ongoing three-way.

An aimless 20-year-old with a penchant for following the rules receives a mysterious set of instructions that lead him down a path from which he may never return in director Géla Babluani's tense tale of death and chance. Sébastien has come into possession of a train ticket and a mysterious set of instructions. Though he is unsure of exactly what fate awaits him when he arrives at his destination, one thing is certain: these items were most certainly not meant for him. Bored by his uneventful existence and hungering for something new, Sébastien boards the outbound train and takes his first bold steps into an unknown future. But the world can be a cruel and unforgiving place filled with unfeeling men to whom human life means little more than a lost wager, and if Sébastien is to make it through his harrowing journey alive he must keep his wits about him and pray that luck is on his side.

AMERICA: FREEDOM TO FASCISM (2006) .

Determined to find the law that requires Americans to pay income tax, Aaron Russo ('The Rose,' 'Trading Places') sets out on a journey. Neither left- nor right-wing, this startling examination exposes the systematic erosion of civil liberties in America. Through interviews with US Congressmen, a former IRS Commissioner, former IRS and FBI agents, tax attorneys and authors, Russo connects the dots between money creation, federal income tax, voter fraud, the national identity card (becoming law in May 2008) and the implementation of radio frequency identification (RFID) technology to track citizens. A striking case about the evolving police state in America.

ANOTHER GAY MOVIE (2006) .

In this raunchy, gay spoof of teen movies, a group of high school grads swear they will lose their virginity before going to college. And so they spend their summer-and this movie-trying to get laid. Lypsinka, Scott Thompson and Graham Norton, among others, make hilarious cameos. Jokes, costumes, vomit, sex and gerbils included. Mature audiences only.

BROTHERS OF THE HEAD (2006) .

'Brothers of the Head' is the feverish, mind-bending odyssey of conjoined twins Tom and Barry Howe who were plucked from obscurity by a 1970s music promoter and groomed into a boy band. Grappling with impossible love, artistic rivalry and a dark inner-life, the twins embrace their freakishness and spit it back in the form of searing Punk Rock. A deep look into the mechanics and emotion that make musicians, 'Brothers of the Head' veils the line between fact and fiction with an unsettling glimpse into a relationship that is as beautiful as it is destructive.

I LIKE KILLING FLIES (2006) .

Long a cultural fixture of New York's Greenwich Village, Shopsin's is explored in this documentary feature from music video director and filmmaker Matt Mahurin (1996's Mugshot). Facing the prospect of shutting down after years as one of the area's best-loved restaurants, owners Eve and Kenny Shopsin reflect on the eatery's beginnings and history. Along with demonstrating some of Shopsin's specialties in the kitchen, the eccentric Kenny waxes philosophically about love, life, politics, and everything in between. I Like Killing Flies screened in competition at the 2004 Sundance Film Festival.

JOHN TUCKER MUST DIE (2006) .
Three teenagers two-timed by a local lothario decide to turn the tables on him in this romantic comedy. John Tucker (Jesse Metcalfe) is the big man on campus at his high school -- he's the captain and star player of the basketball team, he's got money, he's good-looking and charming, and he can have any girl he wants. However, the latter attribute is about to get him in serious trouble when three different girls at his school -- Heather (Ashanti), Beth (Sophia Bush) and Carrie (Arielle Kebbel) -- discover they've all been dating John at the same time. Determined to bring down the campus ladykiller, the girls devise a plan -- they pick a cute but socially clumsy girl who is new at school, Kate (Brittany Snow), and give her a crash course in stealing John's heart. Once Kate has John wrapped around her little finger, she's supposed to drop him like a bad habit and give him a taste of what heartbreak is really like.

LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE (2006) .- By anyone's standards, the Hoover family consists of some decidedly odd characters. There's Richard (Greg Kinnear), a motivational speaker whose career downslide is starting to give the lie to his own philosophy; his wife Sheryl (Toni Collette), who's losing patience with both his crisis and their marriage; their teenage son Dwayne, who worships Nietzsche and has taken a vow of silence until he's old enough to become a fighter pilot; Sheryl's brother Frank (Steve Carell), a Proust scholar who lost a MacArthur grant and his lover but failed in his attempt to lose his life; Grandpa (Alan Arkin), who's been kicked out of his nursing home for snorting heroin; and Olive (Abigail Breslin), Richard and Sheryl's seven-year-old daughter, who isn't going to let a little weight problem get in the way of her winning the Little Miss Sunshine pageant. She's been rehearsing her talent program with Grandpa and seems sure to win, so the family hops into a VW bus and drives Olive to the pageant for a chance to fulfill her dreams.

MIAMI VICE (2006) .

Ricardo Tubbs (Jamie Foxx) lives with Bronx-born intel analyst Trudy (Naomie Harris) as they work undercover transporting drug loads into South Florida to identify a group responsible for three murders. Sonny Crockett (Colin Farrell) is charismatic and flirtatious until -- while undercover working with the supplier of the South Florida group -- he gets romantically involved with Isabella (Gong Li), the Chinese-Cuban wife of an arms and drugs trafficker. The intensity of the case pushes Crockett and Tubbs out onto the edge where identity and fabrication become blurred, where cop and player become one -- especially for Crockett, in his romance with Isabella, and for Tubbs, in the provocation of an assault on those he loves. Directed by Michael Mann

SCOOP (2006) .- Both laughs and thrills are on the masthead in this comedy drama about a would-be reporter written and directed by Woody Allen. Sondra Pransky (Scarlett Johansson) is an American journalism student who travels to England to visit friends. While in London, she attends a magic show where magician Sid "Splendini" Waterman (Woody Allen) brings her on-stage as part of a trick in which he makes her disappear. However, while waiting to be "de-materialized," she's visited by the ghost of a murdered reporter (Ian McShane), who passes along the scoop of the decade. The spirit claims that Peter Lyman (Hugh Jackman), the wealthy and handsome son of a well-known aristocrat, is leading a double life as "the Tarot Card Killer," a serial murderer who has been terrifying the nation and eluding police. With the magician's help, Jane begins investigating the story and is able to piece together some incriminating evidence against Lyman. However, the more she learns, the more dangerous her investigation becomes -- especially when she falls into a romance with the suspected killer. Scoop was Woody Allen's second consecutive film with leading lady Scarlett Johansson, after the critically acclaimed Match Point; it was also Allen's second feature to be shot in Great Britain.

THE ANT BULLY (2006)

After being picked on by the neighborhood bully, young Lucas (newcomer Zach Tyler) takes out his frustrations on a defenseless ant colony, soaking it through with his water gun. But the ants strike back, shrinking Lucas down to their size before trying him in court and sentencing him to hard labor in the ruins of the colony. Lucas must learn the value of teamwork before he can return to his regular life -- and with the help of his new friends, he may just get sweet revenge on somebody his own size. Based on the illustrated children's book by John Nickle, 'The Ant Bully' also features the voices of Julia Roberts, Meryl Streep, Lily Tomlin, Nicolas Cage, Paul Giamatti, Alan Cumming, Cheri Oteri and Ricardo Montalban.

THE BREAK-UP (2005)

Taking the advice of their repsective friends and confidants (and a few total strangers), they both engage in mental warfare designed to force the other person to flee the premises -- until they both realize they might be fighting to keep their relationship alive.

VIVA ZAPATERO (2005) - What a pleasant surprise! For someone who refers to herself as "just a jester" as Ms. Guzzanti does, in a bout of understatement, she does pull together a serious and impartial picture of the dismal state of freedom of speech in Italy, how downtrodden it has been by few who hold the power and how (too) many never felt obliged to stand up and denounce the sorry state of things. She is one of the few who did, and paid by being ostracized from possibly all main TV channels, making a row of enemies for herself even among those whose political stance should be closer to hers, or those who should have the moral integrity to stand by her. Since those enemies are very well aware of the potential of this "Italian Farenheit 9/11" as some movie critic has aptly labelled the movie, it is no surprise that there are only 55 screens showing it in Italy - as per the information on the official movie site - and definitely not the ones in the "mainstream" distribution, mainly owned or influenced by those people and companies whose interests are exposed - as was to be demonstrated.

The Secret Service decides to use him to infiltrate the ETA terrorist band. They try to offer him a deal. Financial problems force him to take their money and accept the mission. He adopts the undercover name of "Lobo" (Wolf) and becomes an active member of the band and acquires the trust of its leaders. He discovers that the group has deep internal divisions between those who want to abandon the armed fight and become just a political party, and those who want to keep the terrorist activity until they can proclaim their independence. After the band carries out their most daring and shocking crime yet, killing the prime minister, Carrero Blanco, the military heads in Madrid launch an immediate attack on ETA. Ricardo, the chief of the secret service, convinces them to wait until Lobo can complete his mission and enable them to dismantle the band. But when the Barcelona police manage to catch the leader of the band, the generals, jealous of this success, decide they can't wait any more and that they will override the secret service and catch whatever ETA members are in Madrid at that point, including Lobo, who is now left to his own devices to escape from both sides.

Election (2006)
Jim McAllister is a popular teacher and student government adviser who loves making a difference in his students' lives. He's been named "Teacher of the Year" three times during his 12 years at George Washington Carver High, but he's about to put it all on the line -- his reputation, his career - for a student election. Tracy Flick is the school's consummate overachiever, an alarmingly ambitious go-getter who treats high school as the first step in a lifelong career strategy. Busy with clubs, committees and school musicals, she is ready for her greatest glory - the student government presidency. Getting elected should be a snap, since no one is running against her -- no one, that is, until Jim decides that this human achievement machine must be stopped and recruits his own candidate for president, Paul Metzler. A sidelined football hero whose enormous popularity threatens Tracy's chances, Paul is charmingly dimwitted and stupendously unfit for the job. The two-person contest gains another combatant when Paul's alienated younger sister, Tammy, joins the race as an insurgent candidate who builds massive support for her crusade to abolish student government altogether. As campaign fever sets in, the lines between right and wrong grow increasingly blurry and Jim's life, both in school and out, begins to spin out of control in this satirical comedy that takes an uncommon look at ambition, morality, desire, love and the lies we never cease telling ourselves.

Robert Thorn, a senior American diplomat, has other things on his mind. His wife, Katherine, who had suffered two previous miscarriages, has endured yet another unsuccessful delivery, but she's unaware their newborn child has died. The hospital priest, Father Spiletto, presents Thorn with another child born that night, whose mother died in childbirth. The priest compels Thorn to take the infant boy as his own. Katherine will never know the truth. Katherine embraces the child as her own, blossoming in motherhood. Thorn's career ascends. He becomes the U.S. ambassador to Great Britain, and the family settles into an estate outside London. But certain disturbing events seem to revolve around the now five-year-old Damien. The boy's nanny hangs herself at his birthday party; a strange priest brings dire warnings to Thorn; a children's trip to the zoo results in a panicked frenzy; Damien becomes hysterical during a drive to church; and blurred movements in a series of photographs portend shocking deaths. Then tragedy strikes closer to home. It's apparent that Damien is the long-prophesized Anti-Christ. Now, Thorn must make the ultimate sacrifice to prevent the unspeakable terror that awaits the world.

An Inconvenient Truth (2006) Director Davis Guggenheim
Humanity is sitting on a time bomb. If the vast majority of the world's scientists are right, we have just ten years to avert a major catastrophe that could send our entire planet's climate system into a tail-spin of epic destruction involving extreme weather, floods, droughts, epidemics and killer heat waves beyond anything we have ever experienced- a catastrophe of our own making. If that sounds like a recipe for serious gloom and doom -- think again. From director Davis Guggenheim comes the Sundance Film Festival hit, "An Inconvenient Truth," which offers a passionate and inspirational look at one man's commitment to expose the myths and misconceptions that surround global warming and inspire actions to prevent it. That man is former Vice President Al Gore, who, in the wake of defeat in the 2000 election, re-set the course of his life to focus on an all-out effort to help save the planet from irrevocable change. In this eye-opening and poignant portrait of Gore and his 'traveling global warming show,' Gore is funny, engaging, open and downright on fire about getting the surprisingly stirring truth about what he calls our 'planetary emergency' out to ordinary citizens before it's too late.

Fanaa 2006 - Annihilation- Director Kunal Kohli
Choices... to choose between right or wrong is simple, but what defines one's life is the decision between the greater of two goods or the lesser of two evils. Little does she know that these very words will shape her life. As he passes from one intense experience to the next, he is caught up in the turmoil of change taking place in the former communist countries and in the process discovering his Jewish roots, which had previously never mattered to him. What started as an excuse simply to travel and have fun soon becomes an obsessive quest and a journey of personal discovery.

Stagedoor 2006 - Director Alexandra Shiva
"Stagedoor" is certainly overdramatic, at times hilarious, and often sad. Alexandra Shiva follows these campers for 3-weeks and in doing so reveals the pain of not making the cut, the glory of a standing ovation, and the interactions between each other and the professional staff. On the very first day of camp, the children are cast in 1 of 12 full-scale drama and musical productions, which are to be mounted exactly 20 days later. The camp is fiercely competitive, ranging from theatrical novices to Broadway veterans; however every camper lands a part. While living, working, and playing together these children do more then just hone their vocal and acting skills. The time spent on and off the stage builds friendships that will last a lifetime. The movie culminates with each child's moment in their show, as they find their own balance of talent and community, on stage and -- more importantly -- off.

X-Men: The Last Stand (2006) Director Brett Ratner

A "cure" for mutancy threatens to alter the course of history. For the first time, mutants have a choice: retain their uniqueness, although it isolates and alienates them, or give up their powers and become human. Once in a Lifetime (2006) Director Paul, Crowder, John Dower - Once in a Lifetime" is the story of the American Dream colliding with the Global Game. It's the story of one man's obsession to spark a Soccer revolution in a country that had never even heard of the sport. But Steve Ross could not transform the North American Soccer League into an American Major League without the most powerful entertainment tool of persuasion: television. When the game failed to gain a foothold on network TV, the media titan's dream, and his team, began to implode. And as quickly as it had exploded onto the scene, the Cosmos, and the league, folded in a New York minute. Soccer in America disappeared overnight. But the Cosmos did leave a legacy, not only were they the prototype for today's super clubs, likewise Pele's contract was the template for those of the Beckhams and Ronaldinhos. Perhaps most significantly of all, both the US men and women's soccer teams, players who grew up in the shadow of the Cosmos brilliant light, now rise through the World rankings, and the youth of America come out in their millions every weekend to play the world's sport. And with several new stadiums under construction across the country, the rapidly growing MLS is poised to achieve the Cosmos promise of soccer as a celebrated American sport.

One Day in Europe (2006) Director Hannes Stoehr - Four cities, four cases of theft, four installments of a Champions' League game and football fever everywhere...These interwoven episodes take place in Moscow, where Galatasaray Istanbul and Deportivo La Coruna meet for the Champions' League final. At this point, Deportivo is leading one-nil. Meanwhile, in a notorious part of Istanbul, a German student named Rokko pretends to be mugged so he can claim the insurance money, not realizing the likes of a committed taxi driver named Celal. Back in Moscow, the Turkish team scores an equalizing goal and all Istanbul goes wild. In Santiago de Compostela, Hungarian history teacher Gabor is relieved of his digital camera. Village policeman Barreira would be only too happy to help him but only after his siesta. The population here is anything but jubilant when the Turkish team score the equalizer in Moscow. Meanwhile, in Berlin, street performers pretend to have been mugged in order to improve their flagging finances. Their search for a suitable place to perform takes them to Kreuzberg with a high percentage of Anatolian residents. Here, football fever is understandably riding high. And the game is about to be decided by penalty kicks...

"Brick," while taking its cues and its verbal style from the novels of Dashiell Hammett, also honors the rich cinematic tradition of the hard-boiled noir mystery, here wittily and bracingly immersed in fresh territory - a modern-day Southern California neighborhood and high school. There, student Brendan Frye's piercing intelligence spares no one. Brendan is not afraid to back up his words with actions, and knows all the angles; yet he prefers to stay an outsider, and does - until the day that his ex-girlfriend, Emily reaches out to him unexpectedly and then vanishes. Brendan's feelings for her still run deep; so much so, that he becomes consumed with finding his troubled inamorata. To find her, Brendan enlists the aid of his only true peer, The Brain, while keeping the assistant vice principal only occasionally informed of what quickly becomes a dangerous investigation. Brendan's single-minded unearthing of students' secrets thrusts him headlong into the colliding social orbits of rich-girl sophisticate Laura, intimidating Tugger, substance-abusing Dode, seductive Kara, jock Brad and - most ominously - non-student The Pin.
